On December 3, 2025, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) issued NOT-OD-26-019, to announce changes to the grant application process. Given NIH’s recent decision to centralize the peer review, NIH is no longer requesting or accepting letters of intent (LOIs). Additionally, effective immediately, NIH will no longer require investigators to contact the funding Institute or Center before requesting $500,000 or more in direct costs in any one budget period.
