NIH is implementing changes to the format and content of its Biosketch, effective for applications, Just-in-Time (JIT) submissions, and Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPRs) due on or after January 25, 2026. NIH encourages applicants to use the Common Form but will accept the prior forms through May 2026 due to technical issues (NOT-OD-26-033). NIH will require use of the Common Forms for applications due on or after and May 8, 2026, and Just-In-Time (JIT), Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR), and Prior Approval submissions submitted on or after May 8, 2026 (NOT-OD-26-079).

NIH will adopt the Biographical Sketch Common Form, which has been or will soon be used by most federal sponsors. In addition to the Common Form, NIH will also require a NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement. For details and a summary of changes from the previous format, refer to NOT-OD-26-018.  Each individual identified as senior/ key personnel is required to submit a Biographical Sketch Common Form and NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement.

NIH requires that both the Biographical Sketch Common Form and the Supplement be created in SciENcv. Instructions for accessing SciENcv are available here.

Prerequisites for creating a Biographical Sketch and Supplement in SciENcv include:

  • An eRA Commons ID
  • An ORCID iD
  • Linking your eRA Commons ID with your ORCID iD

Resources for completing these steps are provided below.

Before submitting materials to NIH, researchers will be required to digitally sign a certification within SciENcv confirming the accuracy of their information. Delegates may be assigned to assist with creating and maintaining the Biographical Sketch and Supplement, but only the researcher may complete the final certification.
