NIH Postponing the May 2025 Common Forms Implementation

Just after RAF today, we became aware that NIH has announced a postponement of the May 25, 2025, implementation of the Common Forms for all applications and Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPRs). NIH will issue future Guide Notices outlining the new effective date and additional implementation details as they are finalized.

NIH applicants and recipients must continue to use the current NIH Biosketch and Other Support format pages for applications, Just-in-Time (JIT) and RPPRs. We are writing to NIH to request clarification on whether this also means that the mandatory requirements to submit forms using SciENcv and the mandatory use of ORCID will also be postponed and, until we hear otherwise, we will work on the assumption that they are postponed.

Given everything else that is going on at the moment, I think this is welcome news.

Implementation of New Initiatives & Policies Webpage

Today, NIH also posted an Implementation of New Initiatives and Policies page on the NIH Grants & Funding website to consolidate the latest information on recent and upcoming changes that impact applications and grants administration.

Highlights:

  • Federal Register Notices and meetings for scientific review groups/study sections are ongoing and Federal Register Notices for National Advisory Councils/Boards have resumed.
  • Application requirements have been updated to the remove the requirements from the submission of diversity plans.
