Certain sponsors require a formal prior approval request for specific changes related to an award. Those changes are not automatically approved by the sponsor and may not be made before sponsor approval. The award terms and conditions provide instruction and guidance for which changes can be made and how to make those changes. The sponsor may implement penalties such as termination of funding by the sponsor or disallowance of expenses if their policies and instructions are not followed.
